He went to Western Michigan University, but later transferred to the University of Delaware, where he majored in theater and acting.

Kennedy began his professional career when he moved to Los Angeles and landed his first role as Roger on CBS’s The Kennedys. He than had guest starring roles on several television shows, such as Six Feet Under; Blind Justice; Barbershop; Love, Inc; NYPD Blue; The Shield; and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He also had a recurring role on Desperate Housewives, a popular primetime soap on ABC. When he was fired from the show, he joined the cast of Weeds, a hit series on Showtime.
