Mads Mikkelsen is a Danish actor best known as the villain from 2006’s Casino Royale and as Dr. Hannibal Lecter on NBC’s Hannibal.

Mads Mikkelsen began his acting career in 1996. He became well known for his role as Tonny, the drug dealer on the Peter Thorsboe Danish television series Rejseholdet (Unit One) in 2000–2003.

He also appeared in the role of Tristan in Jerry Bruckheimer’s production King Arthur in 2004. After his role as the antagonist Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, he began receiving many offers for film appearances.

He has since become known for his roles as Igor Stravinsky in Jan Kounen’s French film Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky in 2008. He received his Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award for his work in the 2012 Danish film The Hunt.

In 2012, he was awarded the Danish American Society’s Person of the Year. He is currently starring in the 2013 TV series Hannibal as the title character Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
