Jonathan Winters is an American comedian, actor, author, and artist.

Jonathan Winters recorded many classic comedy albums for the Verve Records label in 1960. For over 50 years, he released his records and he received 11 nominations for Grammy Awards-Best Comedy Album during his career. He won Best Album for Children, The Little Prince at the Grammy Awards in 1975, and he bagged the Best Spoken Comedy Album for Cranky(y) Calls at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

He has appeared in many television shows and films, including The Steve Allen Show, The Garry Moore Show, The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters, Mork & Mindy, Hee Haw, and It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. He also lent his voice to Grandpa Smurf on The Smurfs between 1986–89, and Papa Smurf in The Smurfs (2011).In 2013, his final feature film was The Smurfs 2, which is dedicated to his memory.

Jonathan Harshman Winters III was born on November 11, 1925 in Bellbrook, Ohio, USA. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for two and a half years in the Pacific Theater during World War II. And upon his return, he attended Kenyon College and studied cartooning at Dayton Art Institute. He is married to Eileen Schauder, with whom he has two children.

Winters passed away last April 11, 2013 at age of 87.
