Isaac Hayes was an American actor, voice actor, singer, songwriter and musician best associated with the Stax Records, where he previously served as record producer and songwriter.

Along with David Porter, he co-wrote the song The Soul which was later recognized by the Grammy Hall of Fame as among the most influential songs of the past 50 years. It was considered one of the Songs of the Century by RIAA, Rolling Stone magazine, and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His work on the album Shaft  won him several awards which include the 1972 Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song, the 1998 BMI Film & TV Award for BMI TV Music Award, the 1972 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, as well as the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement and Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special. He also won the 1973 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance By An Arranger, Composer, Orchestra and/or Choral Leader for his works on the album Black Moses.
